Rotary Club of Baton Rouge – 2009-2010 Committees
ATTENDANCE - The duties of this committee include encouraging regular attendance at weekly meetings, putting particular emphasis on those members who miss three or more consecutive meetings. They also present attendance awards at Rotary meetings. Meets as needed.
AWARDS - Recommend to the Board of Directors members of the Club for various community, national and district awards that include: Golden Deeds, Business Report's Awards: Executive of the Year, Company of the Year, etc., Woman of Achievement, National Conference for Community and Justice, Jaycee's Outstanding Young Man and Woman Awards, Volunteer Activists, etc. Gather information on nominees and complete nomination forms. Meets as needed.
BLOOD BANK - Members of the committee are responsible for promoting the donation of blood at the quarterly blood drawings. Four members will be asked to act as "chairman of the day" and coordinate with OLOL’s Blood Bank for the drawings. Meets at least quarterly.
BY-LAWS - The By-Laws committee is responsible for reviewing of the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws and recommends any appropriate changes, additions and/or deletions to the Board of Directors. Meets as needed.
CLASSIFICATION - This committee, using Rotary's Principle of Classifications as a guide, reviews all new member proposals for proper classifications and eligibility and makes recommendations on changes in classification for current members, as needed. The committee shall also conduct a classification survey and provide information to the Red Stick regarding open classifications. Meets monthly.
COURTESY - Members are assigned one month each to work. They write thank-you notes to the weekly speakers (cards, addresses, stamps provided by Rotary office) during the month and also deliver get well cards to those members who are ill. Meets as needed.
FAMILY OF ROTARY – Committee organizes and plans an event for Rotarian and family members to attend. Duties include selecting location, informing members of date and place and promoting attendance. Will meet at least three times prior to event.
FREE ENTERPRISE - Committee is responsible for securing 50 Rotarians to participate in the 2nd Grade Community Initiative program held in conjunction with Junior Achievement. Coordinate with Junior Achievement regarding dates for training, teaching, etc. Meets as needed.
FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE - This Committee arranges lodging with Rotarians and local tours of the Baton Rouge area when visiting Rotarians and spouses are in the District for a period of one to three weeks. Committee would work with other clubs and may or may not have the lead. Meets as needed.
GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE - Committee coordinates with area clubs to prepare the itinerary for visiting Group Study Exchange Teams while they are in the Baton Rouge area. Members secure host families for team members and arrange for transportation of team members during their stay. Committee also interviews and selects candidates to represent our club at the District level for consideration as Team Members and Team Leader. Three or four meetings needed.
HOLIDAY PROGRAM - This committee's responsibility is to plan and execute the program for children at Christmas. Responsibilities include coordination with Salvation Army regarding the names and needs of the children so that gift items may be purchased. Committee also makes arrangement for the club’s annual holiday party. Will meet three times prior to Christmas.
INNER CITY SCOUTING - Coordinate with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to set up and/or maintain scout troops in the inner city. Meets as needed.
INTERACT - Actively support the Interact Club at Baton Rouge Magnet High School by at least one member of the committee attending and giving assistance to the Interact members at their monthly Interact meeting. Committee members will be asked to serve as hosts for the Interact students when they visit the Rotary meeting. Meets as needed.
INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP - Members of the committee rotate bringing international students to weekly Rotary meetings. This committee is also responsible to coordinate the welcome party that will be held for international students at LSU this August. Meets as needed.
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS - Promotes fellowship and friendship within the Club and insures that visitors feel welcome. Members are assigned a minimum of three weeks during the year in which they are responsible for welcoming and introducing guests and visiting Rotarians at a Rotary meeting. Meets as needed.
LITERACY - Committee will work with GBR Literacy Coalition to assist with its development and implementation of programs. Meets as needed.
MAINSTREAM - The Mainstreamers Committee is comprised of the new members of the Club each year. They are asked to select and carry out a service project during the Rotary year and are given a budget. The Committee Chair will serve as a liaison between the committee and the Rotary office. The chair will call the organizational meeting of the committee and will coordinate other meeting times, activities, etc. as needed. Meets at least monthly beginning in October.
NEW MEMBER ASSIMILATION - Members of this committee serve as "mentors" for new members joining our Club. They stand at the door with their new members for the first four weeks after joining Rotary. Meets as needed.
NEW MEMBER DEVELOPMENT - To maintain the current level of membership, approximately 35 new members must be approved during the Rotary year. This committee shall review the club roster of filled and unfilled classifications and shall take positive action to identify the names of persons to fill unfilled classifications and initiate the proposal process. Meets at least quarterly.
NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION - Conducts orientation meetings for new members. Meetings are held at the Rotary office on the fourth Thursday of the month. Each member conducts one session.
OFFSITE FELLOWSHIP - Committee organizes 3 off-site meetings (where the entire club meets in one location) and 2 off-site fellowship meetings (where the club meets at different locations in small groups). Committee is responsible for securing locations and coordinating details between host location and club/office.
PHOTOGRAPHY- Members of the committee will take turns making photographs at the weekly Rotary meetings. Club provides camera and film. They also are responsible for taking photographs at other Rotary events (Spring Social, etc.). Meets as needed. Each member responsible for one month during the Rotary year.
PROGRAM - Committee members suggest possible speakers for the Rotary meetings each week. The year is divided into quarters, with a quarterly chair for each. Meets as needed.
PUBLIC RELATIONS - Members are responsible for sending news releases regarding the weekly Rotary programs to the news media. The committee will also be responsible for informing others (in our club and the community at large) of what each committee is doing to further the mission of the organization. When a committee has a newsworthy event or information to share, the P.R. committee will submit the information to the Rotary office to promote it in the Rotary newsletter, and develop a press release to attract media to the event. Requires two-three meetings
ROTARACT - Actively support the Rotaract Club at Southern University & BRCC by committee members attending and giving assistance to the Rotaract members at their monthly meetings. Committee members will be asked to serve as hosts for the Rotaract students when they visit the Rotary meeting. Meets as needed.
ROTARY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - Committee interviews and selects candidate (s) to represent our club for the prestigious Rotary Foundation scholarship. The committee must publicize and solicit applicants. Requires one-two meetings.
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION - Committee members will actively recruit members to participate in the Benefactor program of the Rotary International Foundation and look for innovative ways to promote the Rotary Foundation to Rotary members. Meets as needed.
SERGEANT AT ARMS - Responsible for scheduling and assigning committee members to be on duty each week at the meeting to assist in all phases of the meeting. Meets as needed.
SPRING SOCIAL COMMITTEE - Committee plans and implements the annual Spring Social. Duties include selecting location, informing members of date and place and promoting attendance. Will meet at least three times prior to event.
TECHNOLOGY - Committee assists office staff to ensure best decisions are being made to keep office running smoothly & efficiently. Meets as needed.
TRASH & TREASURE SUPPORT - Coordinates with LPB in planning, selecting and honoring the Young Heroes from throughout Louisiana. Requires monthly meetings.
